Professional Development Committee (Under Review)
FAU Libraries Professional Development Committee
The status of this committee is under review. Following the Libraries strategic planning retreat in November 2016, the Libraries adopted the strategic goal to Foster an appreciative environment that engenders a skilled, inclusive, and innovative staff and enable them to succeed in meeting the demands of the changing workplace and in strengthening the Libraries’ participation in the University’s mission. With the adoption of this strategic goal, ongoing professional development has been absorbed into the institutional culture at the individual and collective levels. This committee has not met since 2017.
Charge:
The strength of the FAU Libraries depend on educating all staff and providing high quality service to a diverse community of learners and scholars with rapidly evolving information needs. The Libraries support all of its employees in developing skills, acquiring knowledge, and engaging in activities that support the scholarship of the FAU community and the broader goals of the university.
As the FAU Libraries aspire to be at the forefront of emerging trends in the global library community, the Committee will support the Libraries’ mission “by providing opportunities for intellectual and personal development to a diverse academic community,” and the University’s Pillars and platform of Leadership, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.
As such, the FAU Libraries Professional Development Committee (PDC) seeks to:
Determine library faculty and staff needs
Identify and share relevant resources
Coordinate and host events, utilizing a variety of methods and delivery mechanisms
Support library staff in developing their own personalized professional development plans, habits, and learning networks
The PDC will meet regularly throughout the academic year and submit a schedule of Professional Development activities for the fall and spring breaks to the Dean of the Libraries, along with meeting minutes to the Libraries Google Document on Library Committees. The committee will also recommend changes in the PD process for the next academic year. The committee acts as a sounding board, and welcomes feedback from all library staff. A brief, written report on the year’s activities will be submitted at the end of each academic year.
